2016 Treasure Cabernet Sauvignon - New Release
Our winemaker is committed to finding the best grapes, which he obtained from two vineyards in the heart of Calistoga. This vintage saw the joyous end of the serious drought that we experienced in California starting in 2013. The healthy rain lead to improved soil moisture and vine health. That meant larger canopies and heavier crop. Even with more crop, the summer weather continued to be warm and metered, allowing for optimal ripeness. Quality is excellent.
This wine fermented in tank for 18 days under native yeast. It matured for 28 months in French Oak barrels (70% new) with minimal racking or handling. Upon bottling, it was unfined and unfiltered. The goal throughout our winemaking is to nurture and protect the wine as much as possible, to retain the essential expression of the vineyard site, vintage, and terroir. It should continue to age gracefully and develop complexity far beyond its release. Decanting is recommended while this wine is young.
